Etna Super Marathon

The Etna Marathon is the key event of this year for those who loves hiking and running. This competition is really different from the others thanks to its highest summit. In fact, the summit is at more than 3 000 meters in height.

This race is one of the most important events for all the best athletes of the globe and is announced as the event not to be missed. The first edition had already made a name for itself joining the Guinness Book of Records as the highest vertical race in the world.

An opportunity to discover Etna Volcano

This competition will take place in June 09th, 2018, the departure will be at Marina di Cottone which shelves the Ionian Sea for a run of more than 42 km to Etna, the highest active volcano of Europe. The event will be spectacular and unique of a kind for many reasons.

In fact, this race is a great way to help the participant discover the beautiful Sicilian landscapes of Etna. The competitors will bring a backpack with the necessary equipment and will have the possibility to take it in the transport vehicle booked for that purpose.

After the departure set by the coast of the Ionian Sea near Catania, "Marina Di Cottone" (City of Fiumefreddo), athletes will climb until the summit of Etna. Three thousand meters of altitude, spread on a trail slightly above the "legendary" 42,195 kilometers, corresponding to the distance of the marathon.

This type of event’s particularity besides the summit that must be reached, is not only the distance and difficulty of race it’s also the landscape. Indeed, the landscape is very strange, and it will be hard to run through it and to bear the temperature due to the weather.

In this position, the latter will continue along the biggest natural caldera of the world : Valle del Bove. And then this will cross the desert, the Punta Lucia to finally rise on the Etna where the arrival is fixed at 3000 meters height. This Etna Marathon, is a real challenge through the Volcano. As never before, this is a new and exciting adventure for all athletes who love hiking and trekking.
