June 8th, 9th and 10th. The town of Acitrezza near Acicastello was founded in the 17th century as a seaport by Stefano Riggio a noble of Palermo. The position of the city is face to the archipelago " Cyclops Island " where began the eruptions of Etna. It is an important geological and natural site. Since the mid-twentieth century this city has become an important tourist destination. For Acitrezza the fishing is a tradition in fact the swordfish festival is an annual event. For the occasion the seaport of Alaggio is transformed into a big kitchen.
The swordfish is caught in the area by the "spadare trezzote" (swordfish fishing boats) and is cooked on large barbeques, is seasoned as the tradition with olive oil, lemon, oregano and accompanied by a salad and a glass of wine. The seaport of Alaggio presents for the occasion a craft and typical products market, with the beautiful view of Lachea and cyclops islands, a marine protected area.
